[MONEY FM 89.3] Men’s Health in Singapore: Preventive Care Before You Feel Sick

Dr Reyor Ko, General Practitioner at Doctor Anywhere, joined Michelle Martin on MONEY FM 89.3’s Live Well with Michelle Martin to talk about why men avoid the doctor — and what’s quietly at stake.

Singapore’s life expectancy hit 83.9 years in 2025. But men still die earlier than women – and a big part of the reason is that most only seek help when something has already gone wrong.

Here’s what Dr Reyor shared on air.

“Feeling fine is not the same as being well.”

What you should be doing at every life stage

  • 20s and 30s: Get your baselines – cholesterol, blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI. Even if you exercise regularly, your blood work can tell a different story.

  • 40s: Add cardiac risk to the conversation. A stress test is non-invasive and can surface issues before they become serious.

  • 50+: Regular screening is no longer optional – prostate, colorectal, and ongoing metabolic checks all matter.

The first step doesn’t have to be a clinic visit

A virtual GP consultation can happen from your phone, between meetings. From there, a doctor can advise whether a physical check, blood test, or home-based screening is the right next step. The barrier to that first conversation is lower than you think.

Use your corporate health benefits

If your employer provides healthcare coverage, use it. It’s there for a reason.
