Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination (PCV20)
PCV20 is a newer conjugate vaccine approved in Singapore. It offers protection against 20 pneumococcal strains, including those covered by PCV13, plus 7 additional strains. It is listed under Singapore’s National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS) since Sep 2025.

Who it's for in Singapore:
  • Infants and children aged 6 weeks to 15 months
  • Adults aged 65 and above(under NAIS)
  • Adults aged 18 and above with certain medical conditions(under NAIS)

    • Dosage:
  • 1 dose only (in most cases)
  • Infants and children aged 6 weeks to 15 months should receive a series of four doses – three primary doses followed by a booster.
  • May be used as an alternative to the PCV13 + PPSV23 sequence (based on medical assessment)

    • Subsidies:
  • Eligible for CHAS and HSG subsidies under NAIS for adults only.

    Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination (PCV13)

    PCV13 protects against 13 common strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and is included under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS). It is also used for selected adults with certain health risks.

    Who it's for in Singapore:
  • Children (under NCIS)
  • Adults aged 65 and above (under NAIS)
  • Adults aged 18 and above with certain medical conditions (under NAIS)

    • Dosage:
  • 1 dose for adults only
  • May be followed by PPSV23 for extended coverage
  • All infants should be given two doses of PCV13 (at ages 4 and 6 months), with a booster at 12 months.

    • Subsidies:
  • Eligible Singaporeans may use CHAS, MediSave, or receive subsidies under NAIS/NCIS

    Most people experience mild side effects like a sore arm, low-grade fever, or feeling a little tired — these usually go away in a day or two. Serious reactions are rare. If you feel unwell or have concerns after your shot, you can reach out to a DA doctor anytime.

    It’s possible. Depending on which vaccine you took and when, your doctor may recommend another vaccine for broader protection. PCV20, for example, covers more strains. Book a consult with our doctors to check if you may benefit from an additional dose.

    A single dose of PCV 20 can be administered to provide protection to the other serotypes if the infant has completed the 3 dose PCV13 regimen.

    Yes, you can usually receive the pneumococcal vaccine alongside other vaccines like the flu or COVID-19 shot. Just let our healthcare provider know during your appointment—they’ll make sure it’s safe and spaced correctly.
