Yes. The phototherapy blanket used in our rental service is a registered medical device under the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) of Singapore, certified to deliver blue LED light at the clinically proven wavelength for treating neonatal jaundice.
The device is designed specifically for newborn use and includes multiple safety features:
- Temperature alarm — automatically alerts if the device reaches an unsafe heat level
- High and low intensity settings — adjustable to your doctor’s recommendation
- Soft, flexible blanket design — comfortable for your baby to wear during treatment and feeds
- 10-hour rechargeable battery — no power cord risk during use
Home phototherapy using a certified fibre-optic or LED blanket is a recognised treatment option for mild to moderate neonatal jaundice, and is used alongside or in place of hospital-based treatment in many healthcare systems worldwide.
Important: Home phototherapy is appropriate for mild to moderate jaundice as assessed by your paediatrician. Severe or rapidly rising bilirubin levels require hospital-based intensive phototherapy. Always follow your doctor’s guidance.

HSA registration is required for all medical devices sold or used in Singapore and confirms that the device has undergone regulatory assessment for safety, quality, and performance.
Phototherapy is generally a safe, well-established treatment for neonatal jaundice. Side effects are generally mild and temporary.Commonly observed effects during phototherapy include:
- Slightly increased fluid needs — ensure your baby feeds regularly during treatment to stay hydrated
- Temporary skin darkening in babies with darker skin tones — resolves naturally after treatment
- Loose or more frequent stools — common during treatment, resolves once treatment ends
- Mild skin rash — temporary and harmless in most cases
These are normal physiological responses to light therapy and are not a reason to stop treatment unless your doctor advises otherwise. When to call us: If you notice anything that concerns you during treatment, contact the support hotline we provided during equipment rental immediately. Our team will advise you or escalate to a doctor if needed.
Yes, we strongly recommend that phototherapy is initiated based on your paediatrician’s assessment of your baby’s bilirubin levels and we would require a memo from the Paediatrician to complete the booking
Your doctor will advise you on:
- Whether your baby’s bilirubin level requires phototherapy treatment
- The recommended light intensity setting based on your baby’s weight and age
- How many hours of daily treatment are advised
- When to return for a follow-up bilirubin check to monitor progress
Treatment duration varies depending on your baby’s bilirubin level, weight, age in hours, and how well they respond to light therapy. Your paediatrician will give you the most accurate estimate for your baby’s specific situation.
As a general guide:
- Mild jaundice: bilirubin levels often show meaningful improvement within 24–48 hours of treatment
- Moderate jaundice: 48–72 hours of treatment is common, with follow-up blood tests to confirm progress
Our standard rental covers 3 days / 2 nights, which is designed to accommodate the most common treatment window.
Jaundice is confirmed to have resolved through a follow-up bilirubin blood test — not visual inspection alone. Skin colour can be misleading, especially in babies with darker skin tones, and is not a reliable indicator of bilirubin levels.
The typical process is:
- Continue phototherapy for the duration your paediatrician has recommended
- Attend your scheduled follow-up bilirubin check with your paediatrician (usually 24–48 hours after starting treatment)
- If your baby’s bilirubin has dropped below the treatment threshold, your paediatrician will advise you to stop phototherapy
- A further check 24 hours after stopping treatment is often recommended to confirm levels have not rebounded
