Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination (PCV20)
PCV20 is a newer conjugate vaccine approved in Singapore for use in adults aged 18 and above. It offers protection against 20 pneumococcal strains, including those covered by PCV13, plus 7 additional strains.
- Adults aged 18 and above, especially those aged 50+
- Individuals with medical conditions or who have not completed prior pneumococcal vaccinations
- 1 dose only (in most cases)
- May be used as an alternative to the PCV13 + PPSV23 sequence (based on medical assessment)
- The PCV20 vaccine will soon be subsidised from September 2025. Eligible individuals can receive subsidies for the PCV20 vaccine at our CHAS-accredited DA clinics.
- Pre-registration now open- Eligible individuals can now pre-register to secure their subsidised PCV20 vaccine in advance.
Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccination (PCV13)
PCV13 protects against 13 common strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae and is included under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule (NCIS). It is also used for selected adults with certain health risks.
- Children (under NCIS)
- Adults with weakened immune systems, chronic illnesses, or other risk factors (under NAIS)
- 1 dose for adults, based on doctor’s recommendation
- May be followed by PPSV23 for extended coverage
- Eligible Singaporeans may use CHAS, MediSave, or receive subsidies under NAIS/NCIS
Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccination (PPSV23)
PPSV23 protects against 23 pneumococcal strains. Recommended for older adults and those with chronic medical conditions, as listed under Singapore’s National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS).
- Adults aged 65 and above
- Adults aged 18 and above with diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, or other chronic illnesses
- 1 dose typically
- May be given after PCV13 for enhanced protection
- Repeat dose may be recommended 5 years later for high-risk groups
- Eligible for CHAS, MediSave, and government subsidies under NAIS

Will I experience any side effects after the pneumococcal vaccine?
Most people experience mild side effects like a sore arm, low-grade fever, or feeling a little tired — these usually go away in a day or two. Serious reactions are rare. If you feel unwell or have concerns after your shot, you can reach out to a DA doctor anytime.
I’ve already taken PCV13 or PPSV23. Do I still need another pneumococcal vaccine?
It’s possible. Depending on which vaccine you took and when, your doctor may recommend another vaccine for broader protection. PCV20, for example, covers more strains. Book a consult with our doctors to check if you may benefit from an additional dose.
Can I get the pneumococcal vaccine together with other vaccines?
Yes, you can usually receive the pneumococcal vaccine alongside other vaccines like the flu or COVID-19 shot. Just let our healthcare provider know during your appointment—they’ll make sure it’s safe and spaced correctly.
Is the pneumococcal vaccine safe if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
The vaccine may be suitable for some women during pregnancy or postpartum, especially if you have certain health conditions. We recommend speaking to a DA doctor or your OB-GYN to get personalised advice before booking.
How long does the pneumococcal vaccine last?
