We shouldn’t have to worry about whether we can afford the healthcare we need. That’s why there are various government schemes in Singapore to help support us with healthcare costs. One example of this is MediSave, which we can tap on to pay for healthcare bills.
In this MediSave guide, we answer five commonly asked questions about using MediSave in clinics and how you can use your MediSave at any of our DA Clinics.
What can I use my MediSave for?
You can use your MediSave to pay for insurance premiums, as well as pay for the costs of inpatient care, outpatient care and long term care.
Specifically, at our DA Clinics, your MediSave will be used for outpatient care. This includes:
- Treatment for chronic conditions under the Chronic Disease Management Programme, including diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, and out
- Vaccinations for your child, recommended under the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule
- Vaccinations for yourself, recommended under the National Adult Immunisation Schedule
We can also provide you with a referral to get specific health screenings, such as mammograms and colonoscopy, at MediSave-accredited clinics and screening centres. You’ll need to make your MediSave claims with the clinic or screening centre that you’ve completed the tests at.
How much can I claim from MediSave?
This depends on whether you have any chronic health conditions and how old you are. You can use up to $500 from your MediSave every year for your healthcare expenses. However, should you have existing complex chronic conditions, you can withdraw $700 yearly instead.
Additionally, if you and your spouse are 60 years and above, there’s also the Flexi-MediSave scheme you can tap on. With this, you can use an additional $300 from your MediSave account for your spouse’s healthcare bills (or vice versa).
How do I use my MediSave for clinic expenses?
You will need to fill in and submit the Medical Claims Authorisation Form to us, in order to use your MediSave at our DA Clinics. This form authorises us to submit MediSave claims on your behalf. You can specify the validity of this authorisation for one visit or an extended period of time.
Let our friendly clinic staff know if you need help with the form and they’ll help you with the process.
Can my MediSave be used for my family’s expenses as well?
Yes, you can! Your MediSave can be used for your family’s medical bills too. This includes your spouse, children, parents, grandparents, or siblings.
For example, you’ll be able to withdraw up to $700 a year to pay for a parent’s treatment, if they have a complex chronic condition.
How long does it take for claims to be processed?
It’ll take around 3 working days for MediSave claims to be processed, after we have submitted it to CPF. Once the claim has been approved, you’ll receive a notification from CPF.
If you’re unsure about how the MediSave process works, not to worry. Just inform our clinic staff that you’d like to use your MediSave funds* when you drop by any of our DA Clinics and they’ll guide you through the process.
*Do note that all claims would be subject to MediSave terms & conditions.
